Architecture/History: Tin Tabernacles

Railway station

Largely unnoticed and ignored, corrugated iron buildings can be discovered scattered across Britain and the Empire. The initial proliferation of buildings constructed of corrugated iron was sparked off by an invention of 1828.

An archive of corrugated iron buildings (churches, houses, other buildings, oddities), photographed by Alasdair Ogilvie over the previous twenty five years.

Coaching: Manage energy, not time

ImpatienceImpatience creates a bad mood that can spread to others and bring the attitude of your work group down fast. Before going with your head through the wall it is good practice to ask yourself:

Who am I and Why am I here?

Here’s the situation… (Flash)

Zum Zeitenlauf!

Music from konkord, Vienna: travelling matt | der geht raus (remixed by f733)

Happy Xmas to all of you! We are back in about one week (we hope so…).

Our Weekly Postcard (XXXVI)

Schloss Boernicke

Schloss Börnicke near Berlin, Germany, 2006

A more-sided postcard. And at a sharper look you can detect the billy goat from our blog header in it.

We visited Schloss Börnicke this summer (a visit themed Deutschland - dein Denkmalschutz, in English: Germany - its monument conservation). In the past, Schloss Börnicke was a splendid manor in the possession of the Jewish family Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. The Mendelssohn bank company was Aranyzed in the 30s, and today Schloss Börnicke is nearly a ruin. German magazin Cicero has an excellent article about the whole subject online (Dieses Bild gehörte uns by Julius H. Schoeps, in German language only).

Deutschland - dein Denkmalschutz is a very complicated and often sad story. It’s said that there are serious efforts under way now to reconstruct Schloss Börnicke. More then 60 years after WWII… But, better late then never.
