- Peter Hogenkamp, neuer Leiter Digitale Medien beim Verlagshaus der NZZ-Gruppe, zitiert in: Zeitungen wittern Geld im Internet (NZZ Online, 8. August).

Week 32/2010 is here! But what happened today in 1944?
That was 66 years ago — and much happened! Among other things: The United States Forest Service and the Wartime Advertising Council release posters featuring Smokey Bear (…on Facebook in 2010) for the first time.

(May I mention, in parentheses, as a time comparison that on August 9, 1944, Hans-Rudolf Merz, member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2004, was already more than one year old?! Mister Merz has just announced his resignation for October 2010.)
August 9 was a Wednesday in 1944 — a business day, and the Dow Jones closed at 144.97 points (Source).
Preview for August 12, 1944:
The Allies capture Florence, Italy, and the world’s first undersea oil pipeline, 70 nautical miles long, is laid between England and France (Wikipedia: Operation Pluto).
