A: They are the Recovery Key Share Holders — they hold smartcards that would in the event of a major disaster regenerate the root keys (…to connect everything once again).

Karl ‘Charly’ Elsener (1934-2010)

Der ehemalige Schweizer Nati-Goalie ist in Zürich einer Lungenentzündung erlegen.

In der Saison 1953/54 spielte Elsener beim FC Winterthur. 1956 gewann er mit dem Grasshopper-Club Zürich die Meisterschaft in der Nationalliga A. Der 34-fache Internationale nahm an zwei Weltmeisterschaften teil…

…hier sehen wir ihn im Tor der Schweizer Nati im Vorrunde-Spiel Deutschland-Schweiz an der WM 1966 in England. Der Kommentator erwähnt Elsener nicht – Elsener muss fünfmal hinter sich greifen, das Spiel endet 5:0 für Deutschland.

Nur halb so wild: Wikileaks-Afghanistandokumente ‘nüchtern’ betrachtet

Die Regierung der USA wird durch die Papiere bestätigt, nicht blossgestellt, schreibt Beat Ammann, NZZ-Auslandskorrespondent in Washington. Und: Vergleiche mit den Pentagon-Papers sind absurd. Diese belegten 1971, dass diverse Präsidenten gegenüber Öffentlichkeit und Parlament ihre Absichten und Taten in Vietnam systematisch verschleiert hatten.

Eine Einschätzung, die auch von Fareed Zakaria, author and foreign affairs analyst, geteilt wird. Auf die Frage What do you make of the disclosures in the WikiLeaks documents? antwortet er in einem Gespräch mit CNN:

I think the reaction has been vastly overdone. Frankly I think it was overdone by the three newspapers that published them and then by the rest of the media. This has been compared by almost everybody involved to the Pentagon Papers. They are in fact nothing like that.

PS: Nur halb so wild..? Schwieriger zu beurteilen ist, welche Kollateralschäden die Veröffentlichung der als geheim klassierten Dokumente verursacht hat. Stichwörter: Gefährdung von Zivilisten und Soldaten; (erschwerte) Rekrutierung von Quellen durch die alliierten Geheimdienste usw.
