Economy / Spain: First emergency money issued

The Spain economic crisis is gaining momentum: Unemployment, calculated at 28% (though official figures claim 20%), is astronomically high; bank CajaSur had to be seized by the Bank of Spain some days ago; a general strike over government cutbacks is more than likely…

Spain needs to drop the Euro and to go back to the Peseta – its currency between 1869 and 2002. This is a time-consuming step because billions of banknotes have to be printed.

Not surprisingly, there are strong doubts about the strength of the New Peseta. So, some firms are going to issue their own emergency money. A recent example is the fOinks!, issued by the old-established company Oink! (Website)
