Dear Dog Lovers – Now we know…
… who the winner of the Turner prize 2009 is: Richard Wright, 49, from Glasgow. No doubt, he did a work of profound originality and beauty…
… but the real problem of the Turner prize is, writes Adrian Searle in The Guardian (December 7), … that only one woman, painter Tomma Abts, has won the prize this decade. This imbalance needs to be addressed.
Yessir! And you know that’s exactly what I did when I wrote the entry: Dear Dog Lovers – Allow me to unbosom myself… There, I complained that a foreign woman artist like Amelia can’t be nominated for the prize – and now, looking at that gold-leaf mural by dear Mister Wright, I think again that she would have had the chance to win.
A pity. But, as we all know, regulations can change, and so, some day, Amelia’s day may come.
