Aviation: Passenger panics on transatlantic flight

A piece of citizen journalism, obviously. Disturbing, even shocking… and also voyeuristic?*. The poster of the video writes:

This MMS video begins in the middle of an incident between Canadian Air Marshalls and an apprehended passenger. No idea what his name is but he appears to be very afraid of being ’snuffed out’ by adrenaline pumped cops while the marshalls try to calm him down…

UBS Trading Floor

Gigantic means exceedingly large of its kind, and Swiss investment bank UBS is a giant in many respects. The firm, for instance, had just been forced to write off a further USD10bn in sub-prime losses, and the firm’s trading floor is noted by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest column-less trading floor in the world (located in Stamford, Connecticut, US). 1,400 seats, 2,000 computers and 5,000 monitors - a photo report.

Switzerland: To end the story starting yesterday …

More power to the women - Mrs. Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf replaces Christoph Blocher in the Swiss government (see today’s BBC News). Despite her name, Mrs. Widmer-Schlumpf is not a member of the famous Schlümpfe clan (The Smurfs in English); nor is she a feminist.

A sudden, unexpected change, indeed; but finally, we can say: Better safe than sorry.

Schweiz/Bundesratswahlen (Stand 13:36 Uhr): Lappi tue d’Auge uf!

Wir sind gespannt, ob Christoph Blocher seinem eigenen, im Schaffhauser Schwabentor eingemeisselten Lebensmotto treu bleibt und erkennt, dass seine Zeit als Bundesrat abgelaufen ist - auch dann, wenn er bei einem Verzicht von Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf doch noch gewählt wird.

Lappi tue d’Auge uf!

Das möchten wir aber auch jenen zurufen, welche vom Online-Journalismus der neuen Art (Stichwort: Print goes Web) schwärmen. Einmal mehr zeigte sich heute, dass es nur zwei Medien gibt, welche bei Ereignissen wie Bundesratswahlen effizient und brauchbar sind: Fernsehen und Radio. Schreibender nutzte das Internet-TV Zattoo (via Cablecom), konnte so seinen Arbeitsmorgen in Ruhe - d.h. ohne Klick-Orgien auf Organen wie Blick Online, 20minuten u.ä. - bewältigen und war dennoch stets in Echtzeit über die Ereignisse in Bern informiert (Screenshot: Desktop um 11:51 Uhr/Ausschnitt):

Anmerkung:
Abends werden wir die Berner Ereignisse im Freundeskreis diskutieren - und zwar in einem Sushi-Restaurant mit dem Namen Smiling Fish. Ein Tisch wurde dort frühzeitig reserviert. Und jetzt ist es bereits 13:50 Uhr, was uns vermuten lässt, dass heute hier keine weiteren Einträge mehr erscheinen werden. Dunque: ci sentiamo domani!
